CABOT TYPE C

Why Choose CABOT TYPE C?

  • Enhanced Fire Resistance: The core consists of noncombustible, dimensionally stable gypsum rock sandwiched between layers of 100% recycled ivory-colored front paper and a brown back paper. This enhanced Type X core offers superior fire resistance when used in specific Type C assemblies.
  • Strength and Flexibility: Cabot Type C Gypsum Board provides a strong yet flexible panel suitable for most commercial and residential construction requirements for wall and ceiling substrates.
  • Smooth Finish: After installation, joint treatment systems conceal the ends, edges, corners, and fastener heads, resulting in a seamless surface ready for final decoration.
  • Noise and Thermal Barrier: It acts as an excellent barrier

Description

Cabot Type "C" Core Gypsum Board has a core of noncombustible; dimensionally stable gypsum rock sandwiched between layers of 100% recycled ivory colored front paper and a brown back paper. The core is an enhanced Type X which offers superior fire resistance when used in specific Type C assemblies. The face paper is formed along each edge, wrapped around and sealed to the paper on the back side. This produces a strong yet flexible panel in convenient width and lengths to meet most commercial/residential construction requirements for wall and ceiling substrates.

Cabot Type "C" Core Gypsum Board comes from the factory as a ready-to-finish product. After installation, the ends, edges, corners and fastener heads are concealed with joint treatment systems to produce a smooth seamless surface prior to final decoration.

Cabot Type "C" Core Gypsum Board can be used for most walls, partitions and ceilings in both new commercial and residential construction and remodelling work.

Cabot Type "C" Core Gypsum Board is an excellent barrier to the transmission of noise and thermal energies but must be installed in the proper thickness and method that has been tested to achieve the desired rating as per Standards Specification for Application and Finishing of Gypsum Board, ASTM C 840, and applicable standards and references.

Specifications

Cabot Type "C" Core Gypsum Board is manufactured to meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM C 1396 and CAN/CSA A82.27 and Installation Standards ASTM C840.

Limitations

  • Exposure to excessive or continuous moisture and extreme temperature 52o C (125o F) should be avoided.
  • Store indoors and off ground surface.
  • Boards should be stacked flat with care taken to prevent sagging or damage to edges, ends and surfaces.
  • Storing board lengthwise leaning against framing is not recommended.
  • This board is nonstructural and should not be used as a nailing base to support heavy wall-mounted objects.
  • In cold weather or during joint finishing, temperatures within the enclosure should stay within the range of 50o to 95o F (10o to 35o C) and with sufficient ventilation to carry off excess moisture.

Application

Cabot Type "C" Gypsum Board can be applied to wood framing with drywall nails or Type W screws and with special adhesives in combination with supplemental fasteners. Gypsum Board may also be applied to light gauge metal framing with self-tapping Type S screws.

Since Cabot Type "C" Core Gypsum Board is specified in many different fire rated assemblies it is not possible to generalize where a fire rating is required. Each test varies on board direction, number of board layers, framing type or spacing, and fastener type and length. This critical information is detailed in the UL/ULC current Fire Resistant Directories and the applicator shall be governed by the parameters set out. The applicator must also be governed by the ASTM Standards that describe other important factors such as steel framing members, fasteners for both steel and wood, and installation and finishing of the gypsum board panels.

Board Decoration

Cabot Type "C" Core Gypsum Board is designed to accept most types of paints, texture and wall covering materials. It is recommended to follow the guidelines of ASTM C840 for joint treatment methods and procedures. Painting products to be used shall comply to ASTM C840 and the manufacturers directions shall be adhered to.
