The Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board features a noncombustible, dimensionally stable core made of gypsum rock. This core is sandwiched between a face layer of 100% recycled ivory-colored paper and a brown-back paper. To enhance its strength and fire protection capabilities, the core is reinforced with glass fibers.
Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board has a core of noncombustible; dimensionally stable gypsum rock sandwiched between a face layer of 100% recycled ivory colored paper and a brown-back paper. The core is enhanced with glass fibers to offer greater strength and fire protection for interior walls and ceilings. The face paper is formed along each edge, wrapped around and sealed to the brown paper on the back side. This produces a strong yet flexible panel in convenient width and lengths to meet most commercial/residential construction requirements for wall and ceiling substrates.
Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board comes from the factory as a ready-to-finish product. After installation, the ends, edges, corners and fastener heads are concealed with joint treatment systems to produce a smooth seamless surface prior to final decoration.
Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board can be used for most walls, partitions and ceilings in both new commercial and residential construction and remodeling work.
Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board is an excellent barrier to the transmission of noise and thermal energies but must be installed in the proper thickness and method that has been tested to achieve the desired rating as per Standard Specification for Application and Finishing of Gypsum Board, ASTM C 840, applicable standards and references.
Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board is manufactured to meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM C 1396 and CAN/CSA A82.27 and Installation Standards ASTM C840.
Cabot Type X Gypsum Board can be applied to wood framing with drywall nails or Type W screws and with special adhesives in combination with supplemental fasteners. Gypsum Board may also be applied to light gauge metal framing with self-tapping Type S screws.
Since Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board is specified in many different fire rated assemblies it is not possible to generalize where a fire rating is required. Each test varies on board direction, number of board layers, framing type or spacing, and fastener type and length. This critical information is detailed in the UL/ULC current Fire Resistant Directories and the applicator shall be governed by the parameters set out. The applicator must also be governed by the ASTM Standards that describe other important factors such as steel framing members, fasteners for both steel and wood, and installation and finishing of the gypsum board panels.
In cold weather or during joint finishing, temperatures within the enclosure should stay within the range of 50o to 95oF (10o to 35oC) and with sufficient ventilation to carry off excess moisture.
Cabot Type X Core Gypsum Board is designed to accept most types of paints, texture and wall covering materials. It is, however, strongly recommended that the surface should be primed and sealed with a full bodied quality latex primer before applying a decorative material. This will equalize the suction variation between the joint compounds and the paper surface. If glossy paints are used in areas such as kitchens or bathrooms, then a thin skim coat of compound over the entire surface is recommended to reduce highlighting or joint photographing. This method is also recommended in areas of severe side lighting of either natural or artificial light sources. A sealer application under wallpaper or other wall covering is also recommended so that the board surface will not be damaged if the covering is subsequently removed during redecorating. Joint treatment must be thoroughly dry before proceeding with primer-sealer application and final decoration.
